Americans say testing is not important when evaluating schools.

Standardized tests rank dead last when it comes to evaluating a school's effectiveness, according to a PDK/Gallup poll released this month.

The poll shows respondents rated students' engagement with classwork and their level of hope about their future as the top two indicators of a school's success. About eight in 10 Americans said those two markers were the most important measure.

Factors such as graduates attending college and getting a job after high school were not as important, the poll found. Testing was the last measure most people considered important when judging schools, the poll said.
